UNIVERSITY COMPLUTENSE OF MADRID, SPAIN
Submissions for the 4th International Queer(y)ing Asylum Conference are now closed!
As the world’s leading conference dedicated to LGBTIQ+ asylum and forced migration, Queer(y)ing Asylum is the flagship international platform where scholars, artists, advocates, and people with lived experience come together to examine the complexities of international protection systems.
Through critical exchange and research presentations, we build global awareness, sharpen analysis, and strengthen advocacy for the human rights of queer people navigating displacement across borders.

Against hostility: Queer asylum in an authoritarian age
Submissions for the 4th International Queer(y)ing Asylum Conference are now closed!
We are thrilled by the response and grateful to everyone who submitted proposals for this year’s conference, Against Hostility: Queer Asylum in an Authoritarian Age, which will take place in person at the Complutense University of Madrid.
This year’s conference will bring together scholars, activists, practitioners, artists, and people with lived experience to examine how hostile bordering, securitisation, culture-war politics, and shrinking civic space are reshaping LGBTIQ+ displacement, protection, recognition, and survival. We are especially excited to gather in Madrid for these urgent conversations, and to think together about how communities resist, organise, and build alternatives.
We will now begin reviewing submissions and will be in touch with all authors by 15 July.
Thank you again to everyone who submitted. We are really looking forward to seeing many of you in Madrid!
Memories from previous years
A long list of brilliant individuals with lived experiences, scholars and activists have been part of the Queer(y)ing Asylum Conference since the first edition in 2023 at the University of Nottingham. 2024 took place at the University of East London and in 2025 we met at Lund University.
